Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about VedKaal and Vedic timings.

What is Rahu Kaal?
Rahu Kaal is an inauspicious period of approximately 90 minutes that occurs every day. It is governed by Rahu โ€” a shadow planet in Vedic astrology. Starting new work, important decisions or auspicious activities should be avoided during this time. The timing changes every day based on the day of the week and local sunrise.
What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya divides the day and night into 8 time slots each. Each slot is either auspicious (Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char) or inauspicious (Udveg, Rog, Kaal). It helps in choosing the right time for business deals, travel, new beginnings and other important activities.
Why are my timings different from other Panchang sites?
VedKaal calculates timings based on YOUR city's local sunrise โ€” not Indian Standard Time. If you are in Dubai, Toronto or London, your Rahu Kaal will be different from Delhi's. This is the correct way to calculate Panchang timings. Other sites may show only IST timings which are incorrect for users outside India.
What is Abhijit Muhurat?
Abhijit Muhurat is the most auspicious time of the day, occurring around midday. It is ideal for signing business deals, starting new ventures, property purchase and other important beginnings. It occurs daily regardless of other Panchang elements.
What is Brahma Muhurat?
Brahma Muhurat is an auspicious period starting 96 minutes before sunrise and ending 48 minutes before sunrise. It is considered the best time for meditation, yoga, studying and starting the day with spiritual activities.
What is Tithi?
Tithi is the lunar day in the Vedic calendar. There are 30 Tithis in a lunar month โ€” 15 in Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) and 15 in Krishna Paksha (waning moon). A Tithi can start and end at any time of the day. VedKaal shows all Tithis for the day with exact start and end times โ€” not just the Udaya Tithi.
What is Purnima and Amavasya?
Purnima is the full moon day (15th Tithi of Shukla Paksha). Amavasya is the new moon day (15th Tithi of Krishna Paksha). Both are significant days in the Vedic calendar marked on VedKaal's monthly calendar.
What is Gulika Kaal?
Gulika Kaal is another inauspicious period governed by Gulika (son of Saturn). Like Rahu Kaal, it is advisable to avoid starting important activities during this time. The timing changes daily based on weekday and local sunrise.
