What is Tamil Panchangam?
Tamil Panchangam is the Tamil Hindu almanac based on solar-sidereal (Thirukanitha/Drik Ganita) calculation. It shows the Tamil solar date, Nakshatra, Tithi, Yoga, Karan and inauspicious timings to help plan daily activities according to Vedic tradition.
What is Gowri Panchangam?
Gowri Panchangam divides the day and night into 8 time slots, each named as auspicious (Amirtham ✅, Shubam ✅, Labham ✅, Charam 🟡) or inauspicious (Utbavam ❌, Rogam ❌, Kalam ❌). It is the Tamil equivalent of Choghadiya and is widely followed in Tamil Nadu and Tamil communities worldwide.
What is Yamagandam?
Yamagandam is an inauspicious daily period ruled by Yama. Like Rahu Kaal, starting new ventures during Yamagandam is traditionally avoided. Its timing changes each day of the week based on local sunrise.
How is Tamil date different from Gregorian?
Tamil months are solar — each month begins when the Sun enters a new sidereal zodiac sign (Rasi). Tamil New Year (Puthandu) falls when the Sun enters sidereal Aries, around April 14. Tamil dates do not align with month-end like the Gregorian calendar.
