About Hora / होरा के बारे में

What is Hora in Hindu astrology?
Hora (होरा) is a Vedic system of planetary hours where each day is divided into 24 time segments — 12 during the day (sunrise to sunset) and 12 at night (sunset to next sunrise). Each segment is ruled by one of the seven classical planets: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. The first Hora of the day is ruled by the planet that names the day — Sun on Sunday, Moon on Monday, and so on.
How is Hora calculated?
The day from sunrise to sunset is divided into 12 equal Horas. The night from sunset to next sunrise is divided into another 12 Horas. Hora durations vary by season since day and night lengths change throughout the year. The ruling planets follow the Chaldean sequence: Sun → Venus → Mercury → Moon → Saturn → Jupiter → Mars → repeat.
Which Hora is most auspicious?
Jupiter Hora (Guru Hora) is the most auspicious — ideal for starting spiritual activities, education, business expansion, and ceremonies. Venus Hora (Shukra Hora) is excellent for love, arts, beauty, and luxury. Moon Hora is best for travel, public dealings, and new ventures. Mercury Hora is good for business communication and education.
Which Hora should be avoided for new work?
Mars Hora (Mangal Hora) and Saturn Hora (Shani Hora) are generally inauspicious for starting new activities. During Mars Hora, avoid contracts and new partnerships. During Saturn Hora, expect delays and obstacles. However, Mars Hora is suitable for surgeries, buying property, and activities requiring courage and determination.
What is the difference between Hora and Choghadiya?
Hora is based on 24 planetary hours following the Chaldean sequence, used in both Vedic and Western astrology. Choghadiya is a Hindu system with 16 slots (8 day + 8 night) based on weekday rules. Hora gives planet-level guidance while Choghadiya categorizes into auspicious, neutral, and inauspicious periods.
What is Guru Hora (Jupiter Hour)?
Guru Hora is the planetary hour ruled by Jupiter (Brihaspati/Guru). It is considered the most auspicious Hora and occurs twice daily — once during the day and once at night. Guru Hora is ideal for prayers, starting education, approaching gurus or mentors, business expansion, and all important auspicious activities.
Does Hora time change by city?
Yes. All Hora timings are calculated from the local sunrise and sunset of your city. Since sunrise happens at different times in Mumbai, Dubai, Toronto, or Sydney, every Hora timing is unique to each city. VedKaal calculates based on the precise coordinates and timezone of your city.
