About Choghadiya

What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya (चौघड़िया) is a traditional Hindu system dividing the day and night into 8 equal time slots each. Each slot is ruled by a planet and classified as auspicious (Amrit, Shubh, Labh), neutral (Char), or inauspicious (Udveg, Rog, Kaal). It is used to choose the best time for starting new activities.
How many Choghadiya are there per day?
There are 16 Choghadiya in total — 8 during the day (sunrise to sunset) and 8 at night (sunset to next sunrise). Each slot duration varies daily based on the local day and night length.
Which Choghadiya is most auspicious?
Amrit Choghadiya (ruled by Moon) is the most auspicious, followed by Shubh (Jupiter) and Labh (Mercury). Char (Venus) is neutral and suitable for travel. Udveg (Sun), Rog (Mars), and Kaal (Saturn) are inauspicious for most activities.
What is Amrit Choghadiya best for?
Amrit Choghadiya is ideal for all important activities — starting a business, travel, medical treatment, marriage ceremonies, investments, and any new venture. It is the most universally auspicious slot.
How is Choghadiya calculated?
The day from sunrise to sunset is divided into 8 equal parts. The sequence of slot types depends on the weekday, following a traditional pattern derived from Vedic astrology. Night Choghadiya similarly divides sunset to next sunrise into 8 slots.
What is today's Choghadiya in Ayodhya?
Today's Choghadiya in Ayodhya begins at sunrise (6:07 AM) on 03 October 2026. See the full day and night chart above for all 16 slot timings.
